Nebraska team competes in National Sputum Bowl
The Nebraska sputum bowl team of Jeff Gonzalez and Rob Dickhaut from the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Elisha Pueppka from Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, and Dave Patterson from Alegent Creighton Healthcare Lakeside Hospital, competed in the National Sputum Bowl Competition in Anaheim, CA.
Competing against teams from other states, the team fought its way back in the loser’s bracket. After three days of intense competition, the team was finally eliminated by the team from Pennsylvania, resulting in a fifth place finish and narrowly missing the final four. They had a great time competing and meeting other therapists during the competition.
The champions from the Nebraska Society for Respiratory Care Sputum Bowl Competition, played at the annual state conference, are sponsored by the NSRC Board of Directors by providing their registration to the national AARC Congress meeting. The board would like to continue this support, but the number of sputum bowl teams competing in May has dropped significantly.
In order to sponsor a team, the team must actually compete for the right to represent our state at the national competition. Therefore, in order to continue sponsoring the champions, the board urges more teams to enroll for the May competition.
If you have any questions about the competition, please contact any person on the board or any of this year’s contestants. We look forward to your participation in what has been an historically fun and competitive game. It is truly a good time!
