The NSRC is hosting two Town Hall meetings to talk about changes to our scope of Practice. Please listen about the process and what you can do to help, said Heather Nichols, president.
Meeting times are
- Oct 12, 730 p.m. Central/6:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
- Oct 13 12:00 noon Central/11:00 a.m. Mountain Time.
Much of the wording in regards to respiratory services is outdated, and the scope of respiratory practice has not been updated since 1986, which could lead to respiratory therapists not being utilized to the full extent within their scope of practice, Nichols said. With that, the Nebraska Society for Respiratory Care has applied for a 407 to update the definition of respiratory care and current practices.
Respiratory therapists have always been vital members of the health care team, taking care of patients with a variety of cardiopulmonary conditions. The pandemic has brought to light just how important these individuals are in the delivery of high-quality care.
"Respiratory therapists in our state are in increasing demand as highly skilled professionals," she said. "Our goal is to maintain patient safety and access to care for the residents of the State of Nebraska."
